Don’t get stuck at green lights, move forward

“The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel” 

• You hold up your progress
• You hold up other’s progress
• You get stuck in past and can’t move into your future

Why do we hold on to things/people when it’s obvious it’s not working anymore?

We have too much pride and ego to admit we wasted a lot of time, resource, and energy in something or someone that is broken.

We try to make what is NOT God’s will work anyway

We don’t understand that God has something/someone better

“I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king”

We have allowed our past to drain us, and we need to be refilled

“Fill your horn with oil”

We are not willing to change our environment 

“Be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem”

We are afraid our past can destroy our future

“But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” 1 Sam. 16:2a

We don’t know that God can protect and provide for us despite our past

“The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.” 1 Samuel 16:2b-3
