“Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that scripture would be fulfilled Jesus said, I am thirsty.” John 19:28
Have you ever been so thirsty that you would go to extreme measure to quench your thirst? Growing up there was a saying “stop being so thirsty.” This saying was used to described people who appeared to be desperate for something. Willing to do whatever it took to satisfy a need for attention, validation, acceptance, relationships, money, sex or success. But what if today we actually started being thirsty? Not for things of this world but desperate for the more that God has for us and satisfying the true need of fulfilling his purpose for our lives. What extreme measure would we take?
While Jesus was on the cross he was thirsty. He was desperate for more of God and satisfying the true purpose for his life. He was determined to quench his thirst of fulfilling the prophecy of scripture so that we could have forgiveness, love, freedom, purpose and worth. He was willing to endured extreme measures of pain, suffering and agony just for us. So that we could have life and life more abundantly. Never having to be thirsty for attention, validation, acceptance, relationships, money or success again. He knew that his pain was producing purpose so he couldn’t stop midway through the mission he had to finish the task. And the great news is he did just that. He endured the full experience of suffering so that he could empathize with us in our time of uncomfort and to be everything we need. He died so that we could have life. He died so we can have a personal relationship with him. He died so our thirst could completely be quenched.
So it is today I ask are you thirsty? Are you empty wanting to feel fulfilled and satisfied with life. Have you been looking to people, things, or accomplishments to make your life happier but still your thirst has not been quench. If your answer is yes, I invite you to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior for he is the ultimate thirst quencher and he is ready to be the living water your soul thirst for. He is ready to be the water that enables you to never have to do life on your own. He is ready to fill you up. Receive your drink on today!
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I have been thirsty for so many things that did not bring my life fulfillment. I was looking to quench a thirst that could only be quenched by you and I need your forgiveness on today. I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the dead just for me. To save me, to give me life and everything else I need. I trust you as my lord and savior and I invite you into my heart to fill me up. I invite you in to my heart to replace every void of rejection, anger, bitterness and pain with your love, grace and peace. I surrender my will for yours and I thank you in advance for helping me to complete the task you have created for me to do. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
