Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28

• Hearing God’s voice is not in a FORMULA nor in FORMALITY, it’s in FELLOWSHIP with Him daily with a REGULAR RHYTHM to RECOGNIZE His voice.

How to recognize God’s voice

1. He guides us by His PEACE.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15

“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.” 1 Corinthians 14:33

“Peace is not the absence of conflict, but is the presence of God.”



2. What God says will be in agreement and harmony with His written Word.

 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

3. God voice calls us to draw closer to God’s will, His plans for our life, and to bring us closer to the character of Christ.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”  Romans 8:28-29

God speaks to us through:

• Scriptures 
• Jesus
• Holy Spirit
• Preaching
• Prayer
• Creation
• Circumstances- good and bad
• Dreams and Visions
• Other Believers

We need to know the difference from God’s voice and Satan’s voice

1. Satan will misquote and mishandle God’s Word. 

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”  Genesis 3:1

2. He will question the character of God.

3. He will challenge boundaries God has clearly set.

4. He pulls you away from the plan and purpose of God. (Matthew 16:21-23)

5. He will speak to you when you are physically, mentally, and emotionally vulnerable.

6. He tempts you by appealing to your fleshly appetites and desires.

What blocks us from hearing God’s voice?

1. Disobedience and Rebellion
2. Unbelief
3. We are too busy to hear

How God brings us back into alignment

1. He allows you to experience Pain
2. He speaks to you through anointed Preaching
3. He sends a specific Person to lovingly correct you.

Reasons for Rebuke

“…But the thing David had done displeased the Lord” 2 Samuel 11:27b                         

“The Lord sent Nathan to David…” 2 Samuel 12:1a

Nobody is above being rebuked.

God will send someone to help you hear His voice again 

Rebuke that is from the Lord is not punishment, its protection. 

Rebuke means “To beat something back and push something away” so you won’t self-destruct.

Not everyone is called to rebuke you. 

Qualities of a Rebuker

1. They have a prayer life, a strong walk with God and a commitment to righteousness themselves.
2. They have a relationship with you that you respect and can receive from.
3. They love you and are for you.
4. They are humble and open for God to redirect them too
5. They deliver the word in a way you can receive it.
6. Their goal is to bring you to repentance and submission to God’s will.
