How God Tests Your Faith
Pastor Tyrone Barnette Genesis 37-42 & James 1:2-4 May 15, 2022
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 Let patience finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4
“The Joseph had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. ‘Listen’, he said, ‘I had another dream, and this time the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me’. When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, ‘What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?’” Genesis 37:9-10
“Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. ‘Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these pits and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams’”. Genesis 37:19-20
“The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.” Genesis 39:2-4
“Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, 7 and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” 8 But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. 9 No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.” Genesis 39:6b-10
“Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined”. Genesis 39:20
“So, Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. 43 He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command and people shouted before him, “Make way!” Thus, he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” Genesis 41:41-43
“Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the person who sold grain to all its people. So, when Joseph’s brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground. 7 As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them” Genesis 42:6-7
